The great freezer inventory of 2008

Preparing for our little daughter's arrival, we decided to take a freezer inventory. But first, a funny story. After we found out that there's a little girl cooking in Sacha's belly, we took out our name books and started looking through them. We skimmed through some girls' names and came upon one we liked - Adriana. It sounded pretty and had a nice ring to it. But there was something a little too familiar about it...

You see, some of our neighbors have a son named Mateo and we almost didn't use that name for our Mateo because we thought it might be awkward. But then we thought, the moment we don't chose the name we want, they are going to move out of the neighborhood, and then how silly will we feel. So we decided to use the name we loved, although we felt so awkward about it that we avoided them for months after Mateo was born, so we wouldn't have to deal with the situation.

Anyway, neighbor Mateo's twin sister is named Adriana...which we remembered with a jolt just after finding that name in the book and commenting that we liked it and it would go so well with Mateo. Obviously, Adriana is out as a name for our kid...but, as a joke amongst ourselves, we keep calling the baby Adriana and laughing. Every time we say it, we giggle at the thought of telling our neighbors that not only did we steal their boy name, but now we're taking their girl name, too! Talk about awkward.

Anyway, on with the name search and back to the freezer inventory. Earlier this year we bought a small chest freezer, having fallen in love with freezing meals in bulk. It has been wonderful and during the summer we picked all sorts of blackberries, blueberries, plums and many other things to freeze. Slowly, over the last few months we have also frozen extras of different meals. Some tofu balls here, some chimichangas there, some pizza burgers here, some mjadra there. You get the idea.

With the chest freezer and the regular freezer things were starting to get quite disorganized and we didn't really know what types of dinners we had on stock, or where those dinners might be. Alayna thought we were out of berries, and I knew that somewhere we had some frozen plums.

One freezer inventory later, we realize that we have more than 45 main dishes in the main freezer, tons of blackberries hidden in the bottom of the chest freezer, lots of plums, and an assortment of other lovely foods! This was an amazing surprise for us and a very welcome one. I think our grocery bills will be much lower for the next few weeks! Plus, we'll get a nice taste of summer with all the frozen fruit. Yummmm.
